Month Of Photography Asia 2011: Memory

Look at an old photograph and you’d likely remember what happened and what you felt at that exact moment when the picture was captured. The smell of your mom’s cooking. The old rugged tricycle you used to love. Ex-boyfriends.

Sentimental episodes. A memory.

That’s the power of pictures – a moment frozen in a picture. This year, that’s exactly what the Month of Photography Asia 2011 (MOPAsia) wants to showcase and inspire.

Month of Photography Asia 2011

Memory is the theme for this leading photography festival, now into its 9th year.  Exploring the relationship between memory and photography, the festival showcases a plethora of artists and exhibitions, including ‘Requiem‘, (above) an exhibition dedicated to the memory of photographers who passed away in Vietnam.

Then there’s ‘Superhistory’, an exhibition that will invoke and force us to relook at the way we view the past. The photographer infuses popular pop culture icons into his paintings that will surely make you pay attention.

These are just two interesting exhibitions, out of the many that are on display all over the island.

Take a trip down someone else’s memory or create your own by experiencing the different feelings, thoughts and emotions that the photographs might invoke and trigger in you.
