Ramadan Retrospective! – A Time to Reflect & React

Ramadan (a key month in the Islamic calendar) is always regarded as the most perfect time to change for the better.

Why? Because it’s a month to rediscover what others are feeling, recharge our faith & realise the mistakes we’ve been making & try to rectify them.

& while this month anchors on fasting, do you know that Fasting is not just something specific to Muslims? A lot of other religions practise fasting & abstinence & through this, teaches moral values, like humility, empathy, self-discipline & other worthy excellent attributes  one should have.

For Muslims, fasting is refraining the self from eating, drinking, hurting yourself / other people, abstinence from marital relations (you know what I mean) & of course, being gracious throughout.

The question is: is that all there is to it?

“Can there be more to Ramadan?”

Ramadan Restrospective invites you to re-examine these questions with them as they showcase an extension of Ramadan through art & poetry. You’ll be able to see unique perspectives on Ramadan, culture & society.

Organised by Port Tumasik & supported by the Malay Heritage Foundation, Ramadan Retrospective is a two part event that consists of an art exhibition & an Open Mic Poetry Reading Session “Inspirations from Rumi”.

Four artists & four interpretations of Ramadan & its universal meaning awaits you at this interesting 2-week long exhibition.

“Inspirations from Rumi” is an invitation-only even &  enables participants to create their own poetry / writings inspired from the passionate poet Jelaluddin Rumi and will be able to express them in any kind of form – visual, singing or any multimedia.
