Pompeii: Life in a Roman Town 79CE In 79CE, the cosmopolitan city of Pompeii and much of its surrounding area were buried under volcanic ash and pumice following the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in southern Italy. It was not until the mid-18th century that this city was slowly revealed to the world through archaeological excavations. Pompeii was a bustling and prosperous Roman town with around 20,000 inhabitants at the time of its destruction. Its strategic location, mild climate and fertile soil provided the impetus to the productive agricultural industry as well as the thriving fishing and shipping industries. As Pompeii’s economy flourished, the city also grew culturally vibrant and people became more affluent. Highlights include body casts of eight victims, who were ‘immortalised’ during their last moments when Mount Vesuvius erupted, gladiators’ gear, a mosaic fountain and frescoes from the House of the Golden Bracelet. Ryan Calhoun – Live at TAB! About Ryan Calhoun: Ryan says, “I know bios are supposed to be like serious and tell about the artist’s accomplishments and critical praise. Well I don’t know if I have that many accomplishments and most critics would/will probably hate my music. I’m not trying to save the world. I’m not trying to reinvent the wheel or be the next cool indie artist. I just want to write great songs. I draw from my experiences in life. My relationships, my fears, my struggles everything that surrounds me. My songs are honest and I think that’s why people can relate to them and have a connection. You can listen for yourself and tell me what you think. I know this isn’t much of a bio, but its me and that’s all that I got.” This event does not require tickets & is free, but other charges (F&B) may apply. Time: 1st Set: 830pm / 2nd Set: 1030pm Venue: TAB, 442 Orchard Road Source: TAB |

Vampire Weekend – Live in Singapore! Some bands stay in a holding pattern their whole careers. Others jerk the steering wheel hard and fly off the road. On their second album, Vampire Weekend do neither. Or maybe they do both. “ Their album, Contra, pulls off a series of impressive feats: It’s bustling with fresh ideas, and yet it sounds immediately familiar; it’s heavily layered but taut and kinetic; it chews ravenously through sound palettes and rhythms, and yet it’s nimble and assured; it’s still breezy, and yet it smolders with a newfound emotional heft. The songs are catchy, fast, twinkling, clattering – the darker themes of loss, doubt and regret accumulate almost imperceptibly, but they land a powerful blow. Catch them live in action for one night only in Singapore! Time: 7.30 pm Venue: Esplanade Concert Hall Tickets: Standard – S$148, S$128, S$108, S$88, S$68 / VIP Box – S$148 (Get your tickets HERE!)
