Reading

Poetry Night with Raafil

Raafil has shared his poems with OM sometime ago and is back for more poetry reading.  Come and indulge in a night of literature!

Check out his works HERE!  The poems touch on themes of self-discovery;

( the perceived oneness of the international culture;   the feeling of weightlessness stemming from the act of asking forgiveness from your fellow men; self-therapy through words; blindly trusting authority; wistfulness towards an earlier age where human beings attempted to be one with nature )

Chill out on Friday!

Time: 8.00pm

Venue: Going Om, 63 Haji Lane

Gatz
Elevator Repair Service
(USA)

Part of the Singapore Arts Festival 2010.

Unlike traditional adaptations of The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel, Gatz is staged around a verbatim reading of the entire book – word – for- word. A theatrical tour de force, Gatz is a 6-hour long performance with a cast of 13. Set in a crummy office, the story begins when an employee, Nick (Scott Shepherd) starts reading the book aloud at his desk… and can’t stop. His colleagues hardly seem to notice at first. Then, with a bewildering chain of odd coincidences and visual puns, they are drawn into the world of Fitzgerald’s novel.

One by one, they join Shepherd, acting out the drama and speaking dialogue straight from the book. Shepherd’s amazing feat of narrating helms the 6-hour long show, tracing the novel’s progression at first with comic awkwardness and finally with virtuosic ease.

Time: 2.00pm ( 8 hrs with dinner break and 2 intermissions – dinner not provided)

Venue: Esplanade Theatre Studio

Tickets: Standard – S$45 (Exclude booking fee) Tickets available HERE!

Live Music

Originals Only Open Mike @SAM

Featured Artiste – Jon Chong

Having written songs for over a decade to capture and express his thoughts and experiences, Jon Chong views music as a natural extension of who he is. In his songs, Jon delves honestly into the themes of life and love and why, and stirs us to consider our unique place in the world.

Expect his original compositions to be an eclectic mix of genres — pop, rock, blues, jazz, funk, and soul. Jon strongly believes in the power of music and strives to create music that reaches deep into the soul, leaving an indelible impression. Ultimately, he hopes to inspire people, as a fellow traveller, to pursue their passions and dreams by carving out their own opportunities and breaking stereotypes if necessary, and having as much fun as possible.

Those Who Can’t, Teach
The Necessary Stage (Singapore)

Part of the Singapore Arts Festival 2010.

Those Who Can’t, Teach is a classic of The Necessary Stage, first staged in 1990 as part of the Opening of The Substation.

20 years later, the original creative team of director Alvin Tan and playwright Haresh Sharma, will revisit, revive and revamp the play into a contemporary classic.

Set in the backdrop of a secondary school, the play looks at the madcap lives of teachers and students, with often hilarious results.

As the teachers struggle daily to ‘nurture and groom’, the students prefer to hang out and chillax. In the meantime, they all have to deal with the dreaded ‘parents’.

With upskirting and facebooking, teaching and politicking, school has never been the same. Join the colourful cast of characters as they struggle to prove that Those Who CAN, Teach.

Featuring an ensemble cast including Neo Swee Lin, Rodney Oliveiro, Siti Khalijah, Ian Tan and Najib Soiman. With original music by Philip Tan and set design by Vincent Lim.

Time: 8.00pm

Venue: Drama Centre Theatre

Tickets: Standard – S$50, S$40, S$30, S$20 (exclude booking fee) Tickets Available HERE!
