| MAAD is a Market of Artists And Designers. An excuse to do something more exciting with your life. A space for exhibiting, performing, selling, shopping, chit-chatting, surprising and experimenting. A much cheaper and fulfilling alternative to a country club membership. A campaign to save, support and sustain Singapore’s creative souls. A chance to try something for the first time. A place that does not discriminate against pet-owners or small children.
MAAD is beyond the usual fashion-base, second-hand flea market. MAAD hawks only original, creative, and more often than not, handmade works by talented painters, jewellery makers, product designers, visual artists, wordsmiths and eco-friendly seamstresses. In the past 3 year plus, MAAD has made the work of these local artists, designers and craft-makers accessible to the masses Children’s Day Special! 1. four80bythree20 -an iphone photography exhibition Time: 11am-7pm Venue: Red dot design museum 28, Maxwell Rd (MRT: Tanjong Pagar station) Admission: FREE! source: MAAD |

| Kamishibai – Japanese Storytelling for Everyone By Namiko Sakai and TENKO Kamishibai (紙芝居), literally “paper drama”, is a form of storytelling originating from Japan. In the old days, the gaito kamishibaiya, or kamishibai storyteller, rode from village to village on a bicycle equipped with a small stage. On arrival, the storyteller used two wooden clappers, called hyoshigi, to announce his arrival. Children who bought candy from the storyteller got the best seats in front of the stage. Once an audience assembled, the storyteller told several stories using a set of illustrated boards, inserted into the stage and withdrawn one by one as the story was told. Coupled with music accompaniment and a song and dance segment, listen to a host of stories including The Naughty Little Ghost and The Little Ninja, retold through Kamishibai by Namiko Sakai. A special performance not to be missed! Time: 1315 – 1345 Venue: Esplanade – Concourse source: Esplanade |
