Singapore’s favourite series of free outdoor concerts – NAC-ExxonMobil Concert in the Park is back, bringing a fresh wave of performances to the heartland, amidst the tranquil and idyllic surroundings of Pasir Ris Park! The concert will feature repertoires which comprise of refreshing blends of musical traditions from around the world. Look out for contemporary-fusion group Gamma:rays, who will absolutely transform your perspective of the sounds of ancient gamelan. Sway along to the pulsating and hypnotic rhythms as Gamma:rays brings their unique blend of gamelan infused with jazz, pop, and rock elements. Get off a relaxing start as the winners of Heritage & Harmony Music & Dance Competition 2007 – Bedok View Secondary School Angklung Ensemble, bring you the rich, mellow tones of the Angklung in the opening act. Then, go on an adventurous audio journey with Orkestar Trio, whose performances have led them all over the world, from China to Italy, to Turkey and more. Don’t miss cousins Krsna, Govin, Denise & Dexter as they bring you an eclectic concoction bearing elements originating from Indian, Chinese and Western beginnings. | The Debt (NC16) as part of the 18th Israel Film Festival 2010 (In Hebrew & German with English subtitles) As her retirement unfurls, ex-Mossad agent Rachel (Gila Almagor) unexpectedly comes face to face with a long-buried demon from her past in this haunting psychological thriller. The highlight of Rachel’s career at central intelligence was the successful track down a long-elusive Nazi war criminal ominously nicknamed “The Surgeon of Birkenau.” Now, in the mid-90s, Rachel finds out that elderly gentleman in a Kiev, Ukraine nursing home, insists that he is actually the “real” surgeon. | After Hours – Rahul Advani (an Esplanade Presents Programme)Ever since being featured as a vocalist in the ChildAid Charity Concert in 2007, Rahul Advani has gone on to hold concerts around Singapore at venues such as Paragon, National Library and the National University of Singapore. His musical influences span a wide variety of genres, ranging from R&B stars Usher and Whitney Houston, to Musical Theatre veterans Andrew Lloyd Webber and Lea Salonga. Accompanied by guitarist Akshat Sawhney (whose favourite musicians include John Mayer and Dave Matthews Band) and bassist Rohan Advani (who enjoys performing a vast range of musical styles, such as jazz, rock and funk), catch Rahul singing some of your favourite Pop and R&B tunes by Michael Jackson, Journey, David Guetta, Kylie Minogue and many more, in a stripped down, acoustic style.
